DFW LANDSIDE EROSION IMPROVEMENTS

DFW LANDSIDE EROSION IMPROVEMENTS

DFW Airport Landside Erosion Improvements **

DFW International Airport

The project consisted of providing remedial recommendations for failed slopes along International Parkway in DFW Airport. The slopes were located in the Eagle Ford Shale and were constructed steeper than 3.5:1 (horizontal:vertical). The slopes started experiencing shallow sloughs immediately after construction, characteristic of the Eagle Ford Shale Clays. Back calculations were performed to evaluate the drained, residual shear strength of the soils along the slope. Remedial recommendations included the following options: (a). improving surface soils with lime and/or (b) replacing native soils along the slope with select fill.
